Mattress Cleaning Tips | Get Rid of Bed Bugs

I have read some blogs about mattress cleaning tips which covered various interesting areas, but in this blog, I will discuss a few steps you can take to get a mattress and box spring very well cleaned. None of these will help you if you do not actually put them to practice so make a decision to try them. If you do not have the time, pick a weekend and get your husband and the kids together for a mattress/ box spring cleaning day.

There are several harmful germs, bugs and bacteria that may use your mattress as a breeding hot spot if the environment is just right. Some germs do great during warm seasons. They can reproduce very quickly as a result of that. I also read one article that said the skin of one person sheds over 9 million bacteria daily. You can guess exactly where a significant number of this bacteria end up. Other problems that can arise as a result of using dirty mattresses include asthma, allergies, and possibly skin rashes. There is always that risk of bed bugs too. For these reasons it will help to consider the mattress cleaning tips listed in steps right below.

Steps for Cleaning Your Mattress and Box Spring

[Step 1] Start by removing the covers and washing them and, if the weather permits, bring your mattress outside to the backyard or the front of the house. Lean it against a wall then grab a belt or something like it and hit the mattress all over for about 10 minutes. This can help significantly in removing lots of cornered dust and some invisible skin bacteria that may have accumulated. Turn it and do the exact same thing. Don’t forget the sides too and always remember to wear something to cover your nose.

[Step 2] After that grab a vacuum cleaner and, with the extra small mouth extension, vacuum every part of the mattress. Pay attention to the seams and tough corners.

[Step 3] When that is done, gently spray all sides of your mattress with Lysol disinfectant spray and leave for about 15 minutes for the disinfectant to work.  Steps 2 and 3 can be performed on the box spring also. It’s quite easy for germs and bacteria to get down there too.

[Step 4] For added security, apply some baking soda on the mattress and let it for a while. This step is optional but helpful. Also, the hot rays of the sun alone can help take down moisture loving bacteria or germs.

[Step 5] Lastly, beat the mattress a little more and bring it back in. If you are a guy, I know you can’t resist doing this step one more time.

Give it a try

It might seem like quite some work but it is worth it because [1] it can help prevent you from getting sick and sharing it with the family and [2] you only need to do this just once in a while not every week. Again none of these will mean anything if you do not put these tips to use. So see if there is time this weekend, gather the kids, call her and try these useful mattress cleaning tips.
